Fall In Love With Maisie Williams, The Little Lady Behind Arya Stark

March 20, 2014

I just recently started watching Game of Thrones — and boy, am I late to the party. I resisted it for a long time, claiming that “I’m not into fantasy” and “it’s just not my kind of thing,” but finally about a month ago I realized it was time to get the fuck on board.

I’m really glad I did, for many reasons — but the main one, honestly, is Maisie Williams, aka Arya Stark. I mean, she’s just the best character of all time (exaggeration, but she is great). As we’re inching closer and closer to the premiere of season 4 (coming April 6th), I decided to explore the real life lady (girl, she’s 16) behind little Arya.

Maisie was born in 1997 (yes, you are old. We are old. We are dying), and GoT was her first role ever. She was only 14 when she started filming the show, and look how cute she was while filming the pilot!

As the show has picked up traction, so has Maisie’s friendship with her also awesome co-star, Sansa Stark (I mean Sophie Turner). They are total BFFs, as the kids may or may not still say. Here they are in 2011 at TitanCon.

Maisie is really good on the red carpet (here at the season 3 premiere) — she wears adorable, age-appropriate dresses…

And makes the BEST faces.

Killin it at the Golden Globes last year.

And hanging with Sophie again (this was just last night, at the NYC GoT Season 4 premiere).

Maisie is also great on twitter, where she uses this as her avi.

And spends a lot of time saying cool stuff like:

Only now do I fully understand the pain you guys feel when we kill a leading character on @GameOfThrones . Breaking Bad.. You cut me deep.

And often directly thanking whoever made her an outfit for various events (this one was from Ted Baker, at this year’s Golden Globes).

Also check her out on vine, because she’s such a regular, adorable little girl that it’s sort of hard to handle.

Finally, here’s a beautiful picture that Maisie took as part of her work with youyou mentoring, a group that promotes opportunities for young people from all backgrounds.

In sum, Maisie seems to be a cool, talented, and lucky kid — not unlike Arya. Despite her rising fame, though, it seems that she’s remaining really grounded, and so genuine and sweet. Maisie, never change.
